Hephzibah
HEF-zih-buh · from Cheftsibah · means “My delight is in her”
Hephzibah is a Hebrew name meaning "my delight is in her." She was the wife of King Hezekiah and the mother of King Manasseh. In Isaiah 62:4, God uses this name to describe His restored city, symbolizing the deep, affectionate delight God has in His beloved people.
“No longer will they call you Deserted, or name your land Desolate. But you will be called Hephzibah, and your land Beulah; for the Lord will take delight in you, and your land will be married.”
The story behind the name
Hephzibah lived during a time of great spiritual renewal under her husband, the righteous King Hezekiah of Judah. As queen, she witnessed God's miraculous rescue of Jerusalem from the Assyrian army and the restoration of temple worship. Her name was a daily reminder of God's favor over the royal palace.
Centuries later, the prophet Isaiah spoke Hephzibah as a promise of future restoration for a broken and desolate nation. God declared that Jerusalem would no longer be called Deserted, but would instead be named Hephzibah, because the Lord took great pleasure in her. This name represents the transition from brokenness to belovedness.
A daughter named Hephzibah carries a name that declares her identity as God's beloved child. Her life is rooted in the truth that she is cherished by her Creator, not for what she does, but for who she is. Her story encourages her to walk in the confidence of God's delight.
