Justus
JUS-tus · means “Just, righteous”
Justus is a Latin name meaning "just" or "righteous." It appears in the New Testament for at least three different men, including a candidate to replace Judas among the apostles and a Corinthian believer whose house stood next to the synagogue where Paul preached (Acts 1:23, Acts 18:7).
“Jesus, who is called Justus, also sends greetings. These are the only Jews among my co-workers for the kingdom of God, and they have proved a comfort to me.”
The story behind the name
After Judas's betrayal and death, the remaining apostles sought to fill his place, and two men were put forward: Joseph called Barsabbas, also known as Justus, and Matthias. The believers prayed for God's guidance and cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias, though Justus had been considered worthy of the apostolic calling (Acts 1:23-26).
Another Justus, Titius Justus, appears in Acts 18, a worshiper of God whose house in Corinth stood right next door to the synagogue. When opposition grew too fierce among the Jewish leaders there, Paul moved his teaching into Justus's home, a generous and risky offer of hospitality (Acts 18:7).
A third Justus, called Jesus Justus, is named among Paul's fellow workers for the kingdom of God who brought him comfort (Colossians 4:11). A boy named Justus carries a name for quiet, willing service, standing ready to be used even without the spotlight.
