Isaias

ee-sah-EE-us · means The Lord is salvation

Isaias is the Spanish and Greek-rooted form of Isaiah, meaning "the LORD is salvation." It derives directly from the prophet Isaiah, whose book contains some of the Old Testament's clearest promises of a coming Messiah who would suffer for His people's sin and bring lasting peace.

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!"
Isaiah 6:8 (NIV)

The story behind the name

Isaias has grown steadily in the United States in recent years, especially within Spanish-speaking communities, valued for its strong sound and its direct tie to one of Scripture's most beloved prophets.

Isaiah received his call in a vivid vision of God's throne room, crying out in fear at his own sinfulness, until a seraph touched his lips with a burning coal and pronounced him cleansed (Isaiah 6:1-7). He then answered God's call to speak, saying simply, "Here am I. Send me!" (Isaiah 6:8).

Isaiah went on to describe a coming servant who would be "pierced for our transgressions" and by whose wounds "we are healed" (Isaiah 53:5), words the New Testament writers saw fulfilled in Jesus. A boy named Isaias carries the promise that the Lord Himself is salvation, foretold long before it arrived.
