Michaela
my-KAY-luh · means “Who is like God?”
Michaela is a feminine form derived from Michael, meaning "who is like God?" It is not itself a scriptural name, but it draws its meaning straight from the archangel Michael, described in Daniel and Revelation as a great prince and protector who fights on behalf of God's people.
“Then war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back.”
The story behind the name
Michaela grew popular across the English-speaking world in the 1990s and 2000s, valued as a graceful feminine counterpart to the long-standing classic Michael.
Michael appears in Daniel as "one of the chief princes" who comes to help in the midst of a great spiritual struggle (Daniel 10:13), and later as the great prince "who protects your people" in the last days (Daniel 12:1). His name is really a question meant to be answered: who is like God? No one.
In Revelation, Michael leads heaven's armies in battle against the dragon and wins (Revelation 12:7-8). A daughter named Michaela carries the echo of that question and its obvious answer, that no power comes close to the God who fights for His people.
A blessing to pray over Michaela
Lord, may this daughter know deep in her heart that no one compares to You. Give her Michael's courage to stand firm whenever the battle comes. Amen.
