Eva
EE-vuh · means “Living, life-giver”
Eva is a widely used form of Eve, meaning "living" or "life-giver." It derives directly from Eve, the first woman, formed by God from Adam's side and named "the mother of all the living" in Genesis 3:20.
“Adam named his wife Eve, because she would become the mother of all the living.”
The story behind the name
Eva has been common across Europe and Latin America for centuries and has grown steadily popular in the United States in recent years, appreciated for its short, gentle sound.
Eve was formed by God as a companion for Adam, and the two of them lived in the garden God had planted, walking with Him freely until sin entered through their disobedience (Genesis 2-3). Even after that fall, God did not abandon them.
God promised that Eve's offspring would one day crush the serpent's head (Genesis 3:15), a promise that pointed all the way forward to Christ. A daughter named Eva carries that same thread of hope, that even after failure, God's plan for life and restoration continues.
A blessing to pray over Eva
Father, breathe life into this daughter's story just as You did for Eve. Let hope, not shame, define the path she walks. Amen.
