Pablo

PAH-blo · means Small, humble

Pablo is the Spanish form of Paul, meaning "small" or "humble." It derives directly from Paul, formerly Saul of Tarsus, who was transformed on the road to Damascus from a persecutor of the church into its most tireless missionary and the writer of much of the New Testament.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
2 Timothy 4:7 (NIV)

The story behind the name

Pablo has long been common across Spain and Latin America and has grown in familiarity in the United States, admired for its warm sound and its tie to one of Christianity's most influential figures.

Saul once hunted down Christians with fierce determination, but on the road to Damascus a blinding light knocked him to the ground and a voice asked, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?" (Acts 9:4). Three days later, blind and shaken, he was healed and baptized, and his whole life turned.

Paul went on to plant churches across the Roman world, endure shipwrecks, beatings, and imprisonment, and write letters that shape Christian faith to this day. Near the end of his life he wrote, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith" (2 Timothy 4:7). A boy named Pablo carries the story of a dramatic turnaround and a lifetime of relentless faith.

A blessing to pray over Pablo

Lord, however this son's life turns, turn it toward You as You turned Paul's. Give him strength to finish well whatever race You set before him. Amen.
