Daniela

dan-YEL-uh · means God is my judge

Daniela is a feminine form of Daniel, meaning "God is my judge." It is not itself a name in Scripture, but it comes directly from Daniel, the young man taken captive to Babylon who refused to compromise his faith and was famously delivered from a den of lions.

My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight.
Daniel 6:22 (NIV)

The story behind the name

Daniela is widely used across Spain, Italy, and Latin America, and it has grown steadily in the United States as families look for warm, musical alternatives to Danielle.

Daniel resolved as a young exile not to defile himself with the king's food, and God gave him wisdom that outshone all the magicians and wise men of Babylon (Daniel 1). He remained faithful through decades of service to foreign kings who did not share his God.

When a jealous plot made prayer to God illegal, Daniel kept praying three times a day just as always, and was thrown into a den of lions for it. He came out unharmed, telling the king, "My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions" (Daniel 6:22). A daughter named Daniela carries that same steady, costly faithfulness.

A blessing to pray over Daniela

Lord, give this daughter Daniel's steady, quiet courage, and let her trust You fully whatever den she finds herself in. Amen.
