Hur
HER · means “Noble”
Hur is a Hebrew name traditionally understood as meaning "noble" or "white." In Scripture, Hur was a trusted leader who stood alongside Aaron to support Moses' arms during a critical battle. His name represents loyalty, leadership, and a steadfast heart in times of spiritual warfare.
“He said to the elders, 'Wait here for us until we come back to you. Aaron and Hur are with you, and anyone involved in a dispute can go to them.'”
The story behind the name
Hur was a prominent figure in Israel during the Exodus, serving as a close companion to Moses and Aaron. During the battle against the Amalekites, Hur and Aaron climbed the hill with Moses. When Moses' arms grew heavy, they supported his hands to ensure Israel's victory (Exodus 17).
Moses trusted Hur deeply, placing him in charge of the camp alongside Aaron when Moses ascended Mount Sinai to receive the Law. Hur was also the grandfather of Bezalel, the chief craftsman whom God filled with the Spirit to build the Tabernacle. This family line was marked by leadership, faithfulness, and creative service.
