Jadon
JAY-dun · means “He will judge (uncertain)”
Jadon is a Hebrew name of uncertain meaning, sometimes rendered "he will judge," though scholars are not fully agreed. In Scripture, Jadon was a Meronothite who helped repair the wall of Jerusalem under Nehemiah's leadership, one of many ordinary builders named in that account.
“Next to them, repairs were made by Melatiah of Gibeon and Jadon of Meronoth, the people of Gibeon and Mizpah, who were under the authority of the governor of Trans-Euphrates.”
The story behind the name
Jadon appears in Nehemiah's careful record of the wall-building project around Jerusalem, listed among the many people who each repaired a section. He is identified simply as "Jadon the Meronothite," working alongside the people of Gibeon and Mizpah (Nehemiah 3:7).
The rebuilding of Jerusalem's wall after the exile was slow, exhausting work, done under real threat of attack from surrounding enemies, with many workers holding tools in one hand and weapons in the other (Nehemiah 4:17). Jadon's name sits quietly among dozens of others who showed up and did their part without any promise of recognition.
Scripture does not tell us more about Jadon's life, but his inclusion matters. Nehemiah's list insists that ordinary, faithful labor is worth naming and remembering before God. A son named Jadon carries a legacy of showing up to do necessary work, even when history only records a single line about it.
