Jemimah is a Hebrew name meaning "dove." She was the eldest of Job's three daughters born after his suffering ended, named in the closing chapter of Job's story as a sign of beauty and restoration after unimaginable loss. Job's daughters were praised as the most beautiful in all the land.

“And Job also had seven sons and three daughters. The first daughter he named Jemimah, the second Keziah, and the third Keren-Happuch.”

The story behind the name

Job lost everything: his children, his health, his wealth, and nearly his hope. Yet the book that bears his name does not end in the ashes where he sat scraping his sores. God restored Job's fortunes and gave him twice what he had before.

Among that restoration were three new daughters, and Job named the eldest Jemimah, meaning dove. Scripture tells us that nowhere in all the land were there found women as beautiful as Job's daughters, and remarkably, Job gave them an inheritance alongside their brothers (Job 42:13-15).

Jemimah's name, given after such deep suffering, carries the peace of a dove returning after a long storm. A daughter named Jemimah carries a promise: that God is able to bring beauty, gentleness, and gladness even after the hardest seasons.
