Puah

PEW-uh · from Pu'ah · means Splendid, brilliant

Puah is a Hebrew name meaning "splendid" or "brilliant." She was one of the brave Hebrew midwives who feared God and refused to carry out Pharaoh's orders to kill male children at birth. Her story represents faithfulness, quick wit, and a bold stand for life.

So God was kind to the midwives and the people increased and became even more numerous.
Exodus 1:20 (NIV)

The story behind the name

Puah stood with Shiphrah before the ruler of Egypt, refusing to execute his cruel command to murder newborn Hebrew boys. Risking her own life, she prioritized her devotion to God over the absolute power of Pharaoh. Her quiet rebellion preserved a generation, including Moses.

When questioned by the king, she defended her actions with a clever answer about the vitality of Hebrew mothers. Because she feared the Lord, God blessed her and established her household. Her name is forever written in Exodus 1 as a protector of God's people.

A daughter named Puah carries a name of honor and bright testimony. She is reminded that true splendor comes from a heart that fears God. Her legacy encourages believers to stand firm in times of testing.
