Simone
sih-MOHN · means “He has heard”
Simone is the French feminine form of Simon, meaning "he has heard." It is not itself a name in Scripture, but it derives from Simon Peter, the fisherman Jesus called and renamed, whose life became a study in a God who hears and patiently rebuilds.
“Jesus said to Simon, "Don't be afraid; from now on you will catch people."”
The story behind the name
Simone has long been common in France and has grown steadily as an American choice, valued for its clean, modern sound while still carrying real biblical weight.
Simon was mending nets on the shore of Galilee when Jesus called him to leave everything and follow, promising to make him a fisher of people (Luke 5:1-11). Jesus later renamed him Peter, meaning rock, and built much of His early church on that once-uncertain fisherman.
Simon Peter failed publicly, denying Jesus three times in a single night, yet Jesus sought him out afterward and restored him fully, asking three times, "Do you love me?" (John 21:15-17). A daughter named Simone carries a name rooted in that same story: heard, called, and given fresh chances even after failure.
A blessing to pray over Simone
Lord, hear this daughter's prayers the way You heard Simon's doubts and fears. Call her by name, and rebuild her gently whenever she stumbles. Amen.
