2 Samuel 19:38 (NIV)

The story behind the name

Chimham, spelled Kimham in the NIV, was the son of Barzillai, a wealthy Gileadite who supported David during Absalom's rebellion (2 Samuel 19). When David returned to his throne, he offered to honor Barzillai in Jerusalem. Due to his advanced age, Barzillai asked that his son Chimham go in his place.

David welcomed Chimham, promising to do for him whatever pleased his father, and they crossed the Jordan together. David later gave Chimham a possession of land near Bethlehem, which was known for generations as a lodging place (Jeremiah 41). This inheritance stands as a testament to family loyalty and royal favor.
