Jahaziel

juh-HAY-zee-el · means God sees, beheld by God

Jahaziel is a Hebrew name meaning God sees or beheld by God. In the Old Testament, Jahaziel is a Levite prophet who delivers a famous message of reassurance to King Jehoshaphat, telling Israel that the battle is not theirs, but God's. His name represents faith, peace, and spiritual vision.

He said: "Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the Lord says to you: 'Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God's.'"
2 Chronicles 20:15 (NIV)

The story behind the name

Jahaziel is a Levite of the sons of Asaph who is suddenly filled with the Spirit of the Lord in the middle of a national assembly. King Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah are terrified by a vast allied army marching to attack them. Jahaziel stands up and commands them not to be afraid or discouraged by this great horde.

He delivers the legendary promise that they will not even have to fight this battle, but only to stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give. The next day, the king sends the choir out in front of the army, singing praises to God. Before Israel even reaches the battlefield, the enemy forces have destroyed one another, leaving only spoils to collect.

Jahaziel's name, meaning God sees, was a perfect reflection of his prophetic message, reminding Israel that God saw their danger and would protect them. His obedience in speaking when the Spirit came upon him saved a nation from despair. A boy named Jahaziel carries a legacy of deep trust in God's victory and spiritual vision in difficult times.
