The story behind the name

Jethro, also known as Reuel, was the priest of Midian and the father-in-law of Moses. When Moses fled from Egypt, Jethro welcomed him into his home, gave him his daughter Zipporah in marriage, and provided him with refuge for forty years. He was a man of great wisdom, spiritual stature, and hospitality.

After Israel's deliverance from Egypt, Jethro visited Moses in the wilderness and rejoiced in all the good things the Lord had done. Observing Moses wearing himself out by judging the people alone, Jethro wisely advised him to delegate authority to trustworthy men. This counsel established Israel's leadership structure and preserved Moses' strength.

Jethro's life shows how wisdom and mutual respect can build up the community of faith. He worshiped the Lord and offered sacrifices, recognizing God's supremacy over all other gods. A boy named Jethro inherits a legacy of wise counsel, spiritual maturity, and open-hearted hospitality.
